Secure and Verifiable Identification is required for all transactions. The identification must be provided by the owner
of record or with a power of attorney presented by the agent. The agent must have a secure and verifiable identification to complete the transaction.
Issuing, Renewal
and Expiration of Plates
Colorado has a
staggered system for issuing license plates; most plates are issued
for a 12-month period. License plate renewal must be done during the month indicated on
the vehicle registration or during the following month grace
period. Boulder County assesses an additional $10.00
late fee when registering past the monthly grace period per
Colorado Revised Statue 42-3-112.
As a courtesy to the public, the Clerk & Recorder's Office sends
reminder postcards prior to the month of renewal.
These postcards are not forwarded, so the vehicle owner's address must be
kept current on our files.
If you are
moving at the time of your license plate renewal, note the Boulder County
address change on the postcard and mail the card and your payment, proof
of insurance and emission sticker, if applicable, to the:
Boulder County Clerk & Recorder
1750 33rd Street, Suite 202
Boulder, CO 80301-2550.
Allow two weeks for processing the renewal.
