Over 100 Colorado Plate Styles

Secure and Verifiable Identification is required for all transactions. The identification must be provided by the owner
of record or with a power of attorney presented by the agent. The agent must have a secure and verifiable identification to complete the transaction.
Expiration of
License Plates
Colorado has a staggered
system for issuing license plates; most plates are issued for a
twelve-month period. You should renew your license plate in the month
indicated by the month tab on the plate but no later than the last day of
the following month, which is the grace period.
Boulder County assesses an additional $10.00 late fee when
registering past the monthly grace period per Colorado Revised Statue
42-3-112.
As a courtesy to the public,
the Clerk & Recorder's Office mails reminder postcards prior to the
plate renewal month. Since these postcards cannot be forwarded, the vehicle
owner needs to keep their address current on our files.
*Emissions
tests do not always expire in the same month as the license plates and no
reminders are sent.
